Aoife O'Sullivan
Helping independent learners master new languages through evidence-based techniques, daily routines, and real communities across Ireland.
Who I Am & Why Language Learning Matters
I didn't set out to become a language specialist. It happened because I noticed something real: my most successful students weren't just sitting in my Dublin classroom. They were building daily habits, connecting with others, and using apps strategically. That's what actually worked.
For 12 years, I've watched thousands of people transform how they learn languages. Started as a tutor at International House in Dublin, then pursued my Master's in Applied Linguistics at Trinity College. The research confirmed what I'd already seen — self-directed learners with the right structure and community beat traditional classroom students almost every time.
In 2018, I founded the Dublin Language Exchange Network. Today it's 3,500+ active learners connecting monthly. I've worked with communities in Galway, Cork, and Limerick too. What drives me? That moment when someone finally cracks their personal learning formula. When they realize consistency plus the right tools actually make fluency achievable.
At verrydesk Ltd, I lead research and create content on language acquisition strategies. Everything I recommend? I've tested it myself first. I validate it with my communities. No shortcuts, no theory that doesn't work in practice.

How I Work With Language Learners
1 Test Everything Myself First
I don't recommend techniques or apps I haven't personally tested. No shortcuts, no theory that sounds good but doesn't work in reality. Every strategy gets validated with my communities before I write about it.
2 Focus on Sustainable Habits
Language learning isn't about intensity — it's about consistency. I help you build daily routines that fit your actual life in Dublin or wherever you are. Small habits compound into fluency over time.
3 Blend Science With Real-World Experience
My Master's taught me the cognitive science. 12 years in communities taught me what actually happens. I use both — research-backed methods applied to real learners facing real challenges.
4 Community Over Isolation
Language learning feels isolating when you're alone. I believe in building communities — whether that's the Dublin Language Exchange Network or online spaces where learners practice together and stay motivated.

Aoife doesn't just teach language learning theory — she's actually done it. She tested everything with real people before she recommended it. That's why her advice actually works. Joined her Dublin exchange group last year and it changed how I approach Spanish. I'm way more consistent now, and I'm actually having conversations instead of just doing app drills.
